Modern Love Mumbai: Raat Rani by Shonali Bose are wings to Lali’s dreams

Sometimes your castle of dreams turns out to be a house of cards. But can you never fix it back to make it your castle again? Shonali Bose’s directed Raat Raani featuring Fatima Sana Sheikh is a story which revolves around the same question and tries to resolve it as well.

Lalazari a Kashmiri woman is happy in her dreamy life with her boyfriend Lutfi who too is from Kashmir. Both of them are eloped lovers who have settled in Mumbai’s chawl. He is a watchman and she is a house help in a same house. One day, Lutfi decides to leave her with nothing but, a note about him leaving and a bicycle.

Filled with metaphors Shonali Bose has written and directed Raat Rani as not just a love story between a couple but, around different ideas of love. Fatima Sana Sheikh as Lalzari(Lali) is a childlike heart in an adult’s body. She has dreams and ambitions, which do not seem too big to the viewers but, Shonali Bose has made us believe its too good for Lali.

Some metaphors seem too in your face. But, leaving that aside, this episode of Modern Love Mumbai is a breezy start to the series. You can watch Lali giving wings to her tiny, yet fascinating dreams on Amazon Prime
